Minimalism. Entertainment. What is left when a video game is boiled down, leaving only the fun parts? Thomas Was Alone is a shining example of what would exist if a video game could only consist of what is needed to be solid entertainment, with no frills, and those results were put under a spotlight.
Let’s get a few things answered right now. Do pretty graphics interest you? What about humor? Pulling off combos? Exploration? Boss battles? How do you feel about chickens? Does the term “MetroidVania” pique your interest? Do you have a PS3 and/or a Vita? If you answered yes to any of those questions (minus the chicken one), go ahead and do your PSN library right by stocking a fresh copy of Guacamelee!
Guacamelee, for those who haven’t heard of the game, is an upcoming “Metroidvania brawler” for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. We recently asked Chris McQuinn at Drinkbox Studios a few questions about this stunning game.
Germinator is from the bubble pop genre, the type known best by the Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble series. In Germinator, the player is faced with rising germs, and needs to shoot down germs of matching colors in order to eliminate them.
When Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken was first first released for the PlayStation 3, I had fun with the demo but other games already topped my wanted list and the game was relegated to the “someday” pile. Then, when I got my PS Vita, I did like many other gamers did and thought of what PSN games I’d like to see come to the handheld system. The gaming scene has been anxiously waiting for what’s next from PlayStation, and with last night’s news, everyone has plenty to talk about. Sony has stepped out with quite a showing, and left us with plenty to anticipate in the coming months leading towards E3 and what is assumed to be a November launch of the PlayStation 4. Steven, Travis, and Game-Modo reader Samuel give their thoughts below on announcement impressions, what was missing from the event, and what they want to hear next.
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken has been available for PlayStation 3 and Steam, and is now available on PS Vita! Game-Modo spoke with Sandra Pondaag, director from Ratloop Asia, to find out if this version of Rocketbirds is of a different feather or if they flock together.
Some of you folks may have noticed that Sony are trying an incentive to pull in more gamers to buy the Vita. What does this mean, really? Well they are doing this by offering $20 in PSN credit, 1,000 Sony Rewards points for convincing someone to buy a Vita. Is this really the best way to sell the PS Vita?
Rumors about the next PlayStation are flying with speculation everywhere, and announcement either at or before E3 is assumed imminent. So what’s to stop us from at least hoping the next PlayStation includes some of our requests?
OK, this was actually announced last Wednesday, but being busy with the recent site upgrade, this slipped my mind. I just picked up Samurai Beatdown…for free! PlayStation Mobile games are updated in the store each Wednesday. For the next six weeks, expect a free PS Mobile game each week, to be announced each Tuesday in the week’s PlayStation Store update details.
