Super Wii U Launch Guide And New Releases! – New Video Game Releases – 30/11/2012

Wow this week is chocka block with new releases because Nintendo’s Next Gen system will be launching in the UK and Europe. I have split this article into 2 sections, one talking about the Wii U and its launch lineup and the next section talking about this weeks new video game releases on the other systems.

Wii U Launch Fantastic!

The Wii U will finally grace the UK and European shores on the 30th November and bring with it a whole barrel load of games. The Wii U has been out since the 18th November in the US and has so far been met with some rather positive reactions from Wii U owners. The press on the other hand have been fairly mixed in reaction to the Wii U, just like the Wii on its launch.

Review sources main issue with the Wii U seems to bad frame rates in certain games, short battery life on the GamePad and slow/freezing/crashing issues in the Wii U’s OS. It would seem that Nintendo know about these issues regarding the Wii U OS and will be releasing a much needed patch to resolve this.

It was not all doom and gloom though because most review sources loved the MiiVerse (Wara Wara Plaza) claiming this was a bold and brilliant idea. This is Nintendo’s own version of Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus for gamers. The eShop has also received a lot of praise and the indie game selection is fantastic. Many review sources also think the GamePad is a great piece of kit and offers a new experience in playing video games.

One thing I did notice at first was a lot of reviews on the Wii U before the day one system update, this slightly baffled me because the reviews where incomplete missing out on some of the core functionality of the Wii U, saying that it was a bit strange to send the Wii U for review sources to give a verdict without this essential software on the system.

Nintendo will have three Wii U console launch packs on offer and whichever one you choose offers something slightly different to accommodate the masses. Worried about storage space? Well you can use an external hard drive up to 2TB to relieve your storage issues.

Launch Games Lineup

Now we hit the epic Wii U launch lineup of destiny. I won’t go into detail on every game but will rather pick out the ones that have been reviving a lot of attention recently.

Strangely Nintendo have only two first party titles for launch in the UK and Europe. Lets get things rolling with Nintendoland which has been getting some average to really good reviews. Most reviews have said this is the Wii Us version of Wii Sports and showcases what the GamePad can do. Most of our American fans seem to either love it or not really like it. A bit like Marmite.

What would a Nintendo console launch be without a visit from one of gamings greatest mascots, Mario. Thats right folks New Super Mario Bros U may actually be one of the best 2D Mario games since Mario 3. People really seem to be digging this HD 2D Mario and it looks like Nintendo still have some of that magic for this much loved franchise.

Ubisoft have really gone to town by bringing a brand new IP for the Wii U launch in the guise of ZombiU. If you love the first resident evil you are in for a treat as this game is said to offer that same kind of thrill. This is not an easy game with the difficulty being extreme in some circumstances. The GamePad is used in some rather cool ways like letting you search through your rucksack for items, entering codes on doors, and as a sniper rifle. Overall this is a game aimed at the hardcore gamers and is so far gaining glowing reviews from gamers and critics alike.

Want to know what other games are available at launch, well we have scrapped together a list for you below.

eShop Launch Lineup

Nintendo’s eShop has been getting a lot of love and the indie devs seem to be setting up camp. We recently did and interview with the developers behind Trine 2: Directors Cut, Nano Assault Neo and Chasing Aurora. Well worth a read to find out more details on these games.

Game-Modo are seriously to nice to you folks. We have listed the indie launch games and their prices. Full retail titles will also be available on the eShop but we are unsure which games will be on the eShop or priced at yet.

New Video Game Releases

You may have noticed a lot of reviews circulating regarding Far Cry 3 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. This game has been praised to the max by some review sources with most giving it either a 10/10 or a 9/10. The Metacritic for Far Cry 3 is currently floating around 91%, that’s very amazing for a new release.

As you may expect the main thing about the Far Cry series is its great story driven gameplay and lush graphics. Reviews have said this is the best one yet. If you are a fan of first person shooters or just a fan of Far Cry this will be a great purchase.

Some shops in the UK will also be doing a midnight launch for this game. So if you are going to get your Wii U or own a PS3 or Xbox 360 it may be worth picking up.

We finally see the release of Zone Of The Enders HD Collection on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This offers up Zone Of The Enders which is an incredible game that really showcased some of the raw power in the PlayStation 2 now in full HD and the highly overlooked Zone Of The Enders 2 which again pushed the PlayStation 2 to new limits and also offered one of the best games of that generation.

Reviews have been very good but some have said the games have not aged so well especially Zone Of The Enders. What’s interesting is Zone Of The Enders came with a demo for Metal Gear Solid 2 and Zone Of The Enders HD Collection comes with a demo for Metal Gear Rising. Talk about coincidence?

Had enough of movie and tv series game tie ins? Well we have a few of those for you this week and to kick off the show we have Ben 10 who seems to get a new game outing every few months or so well this time its called Ben 10 Omniverse on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Wii, DS and 3DS. Another game on the above consoles out this week is a game Rise of the Guardians which is of course a tie in for Dreamworks film. It has had fairly mixed reviews but will appeal to kids.  Last up we have a game that was originally on the Wii called Toy Story Mania and has now come across to the PlayStation 3 using the PlayStation Move and Xbox 360 using the Kinect.

Out Next Week

  • Mass Effect Trilogy – PS3
  • 007 Legends – Wii U
  • Paper Mario: Sticker Star – 3DS
  • Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers – PS3, 360, PC
